Polyurethane

polyurethanePolyurethane wheels
The most versatile of materials, polyurethane wheels are suitable for most applications from hospital trolleys to gantry cranes.

They have high tear strength, excellent abrasion resistance and a life span of several times longer than the equivalent in rubber under similar load and conditions.

They also offer the advantages of low rolling resistance (meaning less worker fatigue), non-marking, good floor protection excellent resistance to flat spotting when left for long periods under heavy load.

Under normal operating conditions, the effective temperature ranges for polyurethane is between -30° C and +80°C.

Polyurethane is also resistant to a wide range of oils, greases, brine and most industrial solvents. We have included a table of chemical resistance in our technical data section for reference.

Alternatives in hardness offer varying characteristics to suit a wide range of applications. For instance, hardness at a soft 80 shore A provides good shock absorbency and increased wear resistance compared to rubber, while our standard range of 95 shore A is the ideal balance between capacity and resilience. Where extreme low rolling resistance and high capacity is required, we offer a range of wheels in 70 shore D.

Most wheels used in Super, Extra Heavy and Heavy Industrial castors are moulded onto a cast iron centre that has been machined to a unique pattern. This design increases the bonding surface and reduces the possibility of the polyurethane delaminating under side load.

Where the wheel is used for high speed towing above 16 kph or as a drive wheel, heat build up may result in the polyurethane becoming brittle and subject to premature failure. Please contact your nearest Lemcol representative to confirm suitability under your conditions.
